Mary Ellen Mark (1940-2015) was a prolific, award-winning American photographer, known for her photojournalism and documentary style photographs of “away from mainstream” subjects. She was a member of Magnum Photos, and her work has been exhibited and collected worldwide. She has been published in Life, Rolling Stone, The New Yorker, New York Times and Vanity Fair. This image comes from her time photographing and getting to know the young prostitutes in Bombay in 1978-9.
