Artist Statement
I started working with the body in 1989; at the beginning my work tended to draw on the autobiographical. I decided to use my body as a way to reconstruct personal experiences--through photography and video--as well as cultural and social symbols. At present, I'm still working with the body but concentrating less on my own experiences. I explore the corporeal as a map that I can relate to concepts as different as identity, memory, territory and time. I am interested in translating emotions and moods; re-inventing and recreating personal or collective experiences and visual metaphors. I move from particularity to the general: my experience as a reflection of what other people could have also lived.
